Promotions Planner: Gearing Up for Spring
Start presenting ideas to clients for promotions centered on April observances.
After the long winter months, the flowers will begin to bloom across much of the country, and people will be ready to head out and get busy. Prepare a few months in advance by targeting autism awareness runs, school staff thank-you campaigns, garden centers, parks and recreation organizations, art studios and more.
April 2/World Autism Awareness Day
Established by advocacy organization Autism Speaks, this 15th annual observance has as its mission to support those with autism and those who care for them, as well as education and lobbying for research into the condition worldwide.
PITCH: Consider branded items featuring the official autism awareness colors – red, yellow, dark blue and light blue – for educational events and walks/runs.
April 4/National School Librarian Day
This day is set aside to recognize the daily efforts on the part of school librarians to keep the library organized and help students with their educational needs. Every institution with a library, from elementary schools to universities, could use book-themed giveaways for special events, as well as staff thank-you gifts with the school logo.
PITCH: Think branded items depicting books and food gifts for hard-working librarians.
April 14/National Gardening Day
Whether it’s wildflowers, shrubs or a vegetable patch, gardens can vary widely. This annual observance promotes the use of green thumbs and the further honing of planting and nurturing skills. Gardening can be therapeutic and relaxing, and when done right, results in beautiful flowers and healthy vegetables ripe for the picking.
PITCH: Ask gardening centers and co-ops if they’d consider offering special discounts and even educational sessions this day. Think branded seed packs, gloves and jute totes as giveaways, and gardening bags as raffle prizes.
April 23/National Picnic Day
April is high time for a picnic on the grass. This observance invites people across the country to head outside and bring their food with them to enjoy some fresh air and early blooms after the winter months.
PITCH: Help parks and recreation areas welcome picnickers with T-shirts, headwear and sunglasses, and offer the first guest to RSVP the chance to win a branded picnic set.
April 30/International Sculpture Day
First held in 2014 by the International Sculpture Center (ISC), this observance recognizes the history of sculpture and the discipline’s many contributions to art and culture. The ISC encourages artists, organizations and schools to celebrate sculpture this day with demonstrations, exhibitions, panel discussions, studio open houses, unveilings and more, all while using the #isday hashtag on social media.
PITCH: Present giveaway ideas like headwear, totes and even sketchbooks celebrating sculpture-oriented events this day.
