These days, Andy Shape is focused less on simply increasing revenue and more on achieving sustainable growth. The CEO of Counselor Top 40 distributor Stran Promotional Solutions (asi/337725) says one of the firm’s biggest challenges in the last year has been managing the pace and complexity of growth while maintaining financial and operational discipline.
“Striking the right balance between reinvesting in the business to drive growth and long-term value while maximizing current profitability is more art than science, and I believe we continue to improve at both as we grow and scale,” says Shape, who drops five spots on this year’s list due to lower influence ratings from the promo industry at large in the Counselor Power 50 survey.
The Counselor 2023 Person of the Year has a lot to be proud of. For one, he led the company to a revenue increase of over 40% for 2025 after a loss of $4 million the year prior. (As of publication date, Stran was trading at $1.34 per share on the Nasdaq stock exchange.) These figures include roughly 13% organic growth from its core promotional products business, which Shape says was driven by increased spending from existing enterprise clients as well as new customer wins.
Following Stran’s 2024 acquisition of the Gander Group, Shape points to the successful integration and continued growth of its casino continuity and loyalty programs as a major accomplishment.
Going into 2027, Shape has identified several key focus areas, including winning new customers and expanding relationships with existing ones; introducing additional offerings; pursuing acquisitions; and investing in technology.
AI Perspective
“I use AI extensively every day in both my professional and personal life to accelerate research, perform analysis, organize information, improve communication, develop ideas and reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks. The strongest organizations will be those that combine AI’s capabilities with sound human judgment, creativity and authentic customer relationships. Those who understand what AI can’t do and focus on outperforming in those areas, while applying AI tactically, will fare far better than those attempting to apply it in all sorts of areas where it isn’t a realistic or a beneficial solution.”
