Jo-an Lantz and David Geiger of Counselor Top 40 distributor Geiger (asi/202900) rise two spots to number-three on this year’s Counselor Power 50 list. As the industry continues to grow globally, the family-owned distributor remains at the forefront of that movement. Lantz and Geiger oversaw the successful completion of five acquisitions in Europe this year: S&P Werbeartikel, UP Werbemittel, GF Werbemittel and Pro-promotion in Germany, and Nowak Werbeartikel, which marked the company’s entry into the Austrian market.
“We’ve been very intentional about building a truly global organization, and these investments further strengthen our presence in Europe and our ability to serve multinational customers wherever they operate,” says David Geiger, who was appointed president in late 2024. The fifth-generation leader made his Counselor Power 50 debut last year, joining Lantz, the longtime company stalwart who has been CEO since 2019.
The firm also recorded a notable achievement in the sustainability space by earning a global Platinum rating from EcoVadis. The recognition places Geiger among the top 1% of organizations assessed for sustainability performance globally.
While geopolitical challenges and external economic events have presented challenges beyond the distributor’s control, Geiger and Lantz remain proud of how their team and products continue to evolve.
These headwinds, says Geiger, have reinforced the importance of the global and diversified supply chain they’ve built. “Having strong teams and supplier relationships across multiple regions gives us greater flexibility and resilience when conditions change,” he adds. “As a family-owned company, we have the ability and responsibility to think beyond the next quarter. We’re investing in our people, technology and global capabilities with the goal of building a stronger Geiger for the people here today and for generations to come.”
AI Perspective
Geiger: “I’m using AI to make me more effective, whether that’s sharpening my research, improving how I prepare or challenging my own thinking. I’m also very aware of how much there’s still to learn. The technology is evolving incredibly quickly, so I make a point of continuing to educate myself and becoming more thoughtful and effective in how I use it. For us, the goal isn’t to replace the human element of our business; it’s to use technology to enhance what our people do best while preserving the relationships, creativity and culture that have made Geiger successful for 148 years.”
