“Geez, the challenges never seem to stop.”
Brandon Mackay, president and CEO of Counselor Top 40 supplier SnugZ USA (asi/88060), might’ve just coined the catchphrase for 2026.
“Many of them are financially related – tariffs, fuel costs, ocean freight, margin compression, rising healthcare premiums, never-ending new state regulations,” he says. “The list could go on and on. Through it all, we’ve stayed focused on controlling what we can control as a team and leaving the things we can’t control to others.”
Mackay and Chief Revenue Officer Brittany David did all they could to mitigate the impacts, as SnugZ experienced a nearly 2% decrease in revenue last year. (The decline contributed to the duo falling four spots on this year’s Counselor Power 50 list.) Still, Mackay says the company – which was named a Counselor Best Place to Work earlier this year – has synergy across its teams that’s the best he’s seen in his more than 30 years with the company.
“We have such a dedicated team from top to bottom that truly wants what’s best not just for customers, but for one another,” he says. “Watching our people come together, support each other and work toward common goals has been incredibly rewarding.”
AI Perspective
Mackay: “We’ve embraced AI as part of our business model and have already seen great results. We currently have several AI-driven projects in development that we believe will help us become more efficient, improve the customer experience, and continue raising the bar for our industry. Personally, I’ve also found AI to be an incredibly useful tool for learning, research, problem-solving and becoming more efficient with my time. Looking ahead to 2027 and beyond, I believe AI will continue to transform how we operate, compete and make decisions. The opportunity is enormous, and we intend to embrace it rather than watch it happen around us.”
