10 June Events & Initiatives To Capitalize On
There is still time to provide branded gear for events and initiatives in June. Here are ten to focus on, along with product tips.
June 2016
PTSD Awareness Month
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder affects the lives of thousands of Americans, especially military veterans (www.ptsd.va.gov). Provide nonprofits, veterans’ groups and health care institutions with T-shirts, caps and hooded sweatshirts that raise awareness about PTSD.
National Oceans Month
Help nonprofits that focus on protecting oceans spread the message of conservation with eco-friendly products. Think shirts made from organic cotton and other apparel pieces composed, at least in part, of recycled plastic bottles. Potential clients include Surfrider Foundation (www.surfrider.org) and Oceanic Society (www.oceanicsociety.org).
National Zoo & Aquarium Month
Connect zoos and aquariums with branded stuffed animals that publicize the important role these organizations play in wildlife education and conservation (www.aza.org). Animal-shaped keychains, pens and squeeze toys/stress relievers are other potential products.
Men’s Health Month
Nutritionists and wellness services companies can use this month-long initiative as a springboard for promoting themselves to corporations that want healthier, more productive workforces (www.menshealthmonth.org). Provide nutritionists and wellness firms with collateral for direct mail campaigns and in-person meetings with potential clients. Think stylus pens, hand sanitizer, SPF lip balm and microfiber screen cleaners.
June 1: National Running Day
Be part of this coast-to-coast celebration of running by providing branded merchandise for races (www.runningday.org). Consider flexi-bottles, lip balm, sunscreen and race-branded shirts.
June 5: National Cancer Survivors Day
Hundreds of communities nationwide honor people living with and beyond cancer (www.ncsd.org). Extend the awareness-raising reach beyond the events themselves with bracelets, water bottles and totes.
June 14: World Blood Donor Day
Empower blood banks to encourage donations – and to thank people who give – with appropriately themed branded merchandise (www.who.int/campaigns). Think red mugs, totes and pens, as well as droplet-shaped items like magnets and air fresheners.
June 21: Go Skateboarding Day
Skateboarding events take place around the world on this day that celebrates the popular sport (www.theiasc.org). Find skate shops and skateboarding clothing/hardware brands that are participating in, sponsoring or hosting such events. Then, connect them with swag like stickers, wristbands, drawstring backpacks, beanies, flat-bill hats and more.
June 24-26: Colorado Brewers’ Festival
More than 80 breweries will exhibit their finest stouts, ales and lagers at this suds-soaked festival (www.downtownfortcollins.com). Sell the beer makers items they can give or retail to the estimated 30,000 attendees. Think pint glasses, T-shirts, bottle openers, sunglasses, can coolers and caps.
June 27: National HIV Testing Day
Totes, ribbons, branded condoms and awareness wristbands are several items clinics, nonprofits and health care institutions can use to further the mission of this nationwide campaign, which encourages voluntary HIV testing (www.aids.gov).
