NFL Celebrates Super Bowl 50 With All Things Gold

The NFL has been building up Super Bowl 50, which is due to be played on Feb. 7 in Santa Clara, CA, by celebrating its anniversary with a variety of gold-hued items and special events.

Prior events have included the gold-themed NFL draft, which took place in April through May. Each player who was drafted received a logoed team hat with the golden NFL shield on the back.

Also, the league, through its Super Bowl High School Honor Roll, sent gold-colored commemorative footballs to the high schools of every player and coach who played in a Super Bowl. The list of high schools can be viewed at http://www.nfl.com/sbhsdatabase. More than 2,000 schools and nearly 3,000 individuals were honored through the program. According to the NFL, the platform was designed to link the past 49 Super Bowls to this year’s game. The specially imprinted football was produced by Wilson.

Fashionistas got in on the action as well. The NFL and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) partnered to create a collection of custom-made, embellished footballs. Some of the 50 designers include Betsey Johnson, Kenneth Cole, Rachel Zoe and Nicole Miller. The footballs are being auctioned off on NFL.com to raise money for the NFL’s charitable arm.

In addition to the Lombardi trophy, the winner of the Super Bowl, which will be between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers, will also receive a special 18-karat gold number 50.
