Canadian distributors fielded more requests for sustainable products in 2025.

According to ASI Research, 56% of distributors reported a year-over-year increase in demand for environmentally friendly products, and 54% reported a rise in queries for socially responsible ones.

Danny Braunstein, director of client success for Counselor Top 40 distributor BAMKO (asi/131431) in Canada, said that interest is directly related to those now making purchasing decisions. “We’re definitely seeing a shift in the buying habits of millennials and Gen Z,” he said. “They tend to be thoughtful and purposeful with their purchases. They prioritize quality, sustainability and social responsibility over price alone, and they’d rather order a smaller quantity of a high-quality item than a larger volume of something disposable.”

At the same time, customer queries for Canadian-made items surged amid a trade feud with the U.S. that continues this year, with nearly 9 in 10 distributors reporting an increase.

“It’s not just that importing from the U.S. has become more complicated and cost-prohibitive,” said Braunstein. “There’s a real sense of national pride happening too. I’m expecting this to stick around through next year as clients start treating domestic supply chains as a major piece of their ESG strategy.”
