C-Suite Shake-Up Occurs at Under Armour

Two executives are departing the maker of athletic apparel and footwear, while a chief consumer officer has been hired and another leader promoted to chief technology officer.

Two top executives are leaving Under Armour as part of a C-Suite overhaul that comes about four months after former Marriott International executive Stephanie Linnartz officially took over as CEO.

Meanwhile, another Marriott executive – Jim Dausch – is joining Under Armour on July 24 as chief consumer officer/executive vice president. In addition, Danny Miles has been promoted to chief technology officer/executive vice president.

Under Armour, a Baltimore-based maker of athletic apparel, footwear and equipment whose clothes, headwear and bags sell in the promotional products industry, said the changes are intended to advance Protect This House 3 (PTH3), a new strategy initiative that aims to accelerate sales and drive more consistent profitable growth and returns for shareholders.

As part of the changes, Colin Browne, currently chief operating officer (COO), is leaving Under Armour in the autumn. Chief Product Officer (CPO) Lisa Collier is departing the firm this summer.

Browne has been with Under Armour for seven years. The company said he helped modernize Under Armour's digital go-to-market strategy and direct-to-consumer model and “transformed its supply chain organization, leading to significant margin improvement and operating efficiency.”

Browne was also interim CEO from June 2022 through February 2023 as Under Armour sought a permanent replacement for Patrik Frisk, who resigned as CEO, president and board member last year.

Under Armour won’t be filling the COO role. Instead, the company is searching for a chief supply chain officer.

Collier has served as CPO since 2020. Under Armour is looking externally for a replacement;  Dan Leraris, head of apparel, will begin serving as the company's interim CPO on July 3.

As chief consumer officer, Dausch will lead Under Armour’s global brand, marketing, digital engagement and customer experience. Reporting directly to Linnartz, Dausch comes aboard from Marriot, where he spent more than 20 years in positions involving sales/marketing, corporate finance, franchising and operations.

“Jim is a seasoned executive with deep experience leading transformational initiatives,” Linnartz said. “I am confident that his world-class leadership will help unify our team of extremely talented teammates to help drive the next phase of our growth.”

Miles, who will report to Linnartz, joined Under Armour in 2021. He will lead the company's global information technology teams, information security, enterprise data management and analytics, enterprise architecture, and more.

In May, Under Armour reported that it increased its full fiscal-year revenue 3% to $5.9 billion. A 6% rise wholesale business fueled the gain but was partially offset by a 3% decline in direct-to-consumer business. International sales rose 8% but in North America revenue slipped 1%. For the current fiscal year, Under Armour predicts that revenue will be flat to up slightly.
