For Katie Grimes, promo is about more than just putting a logo on a product. Sure, that’s a part of it, but MadeToOrder’s (asi/259540) new head of strategic accounts says it’s the opportunity for creativity and problem-solving that made her fall in love with the industry.

“Branded merchandise has the ability to shape company culture, create connection and make people feel part of something,” said Grimes, who previously served as account manager at the Oakland, CA-based distributor. “I’m excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to continue growing alongside our team and our clients.”

Grimes began her promo career eight years ago at tech-focused supplier Origaudio, where she started as a project coordinator before being promoted to account manager. The firm was later acquired by Counselor Top 40 supplier HPG (asi/61966) in 2018, and Grimes was one of four sales employees retained during that time.

Grimes transitioned to the distributor side of promo when she joined RED Promotions in 2021. MTO then merged with RED in 2024.

In her newly-created role, Grimes will be responsible for partnering with sales executives to help them strategically grow their accounts. 

“Katie is someone who jumps in, solves problems, builds strong relationships and is always willing to help move an opportunity forward,” said Sandy Gonzalez, CEO of MTO and a member of Counselor’s Power 50 list of the most influential people in promo. “She has a natural ability to see the bigger picture, bring people together and find creative solutions for our clients.”
