Health Canada, CPSC Issue Hard Hat Recall
Health Canada, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued an official recall for hard hats from Honeywell Safety Products. The hats can fail to protect wearers from impact, posing the risk of a head injury.
The Fibre-Metal E2
The affected hats are the Type 1 Fibre-Metal E2 and North Peak A79 hard hats imported by Honeywell Safety Products USA Inc., of Smithfield, RI, and made in Mexico by North Safety de Mexicali, S. de R.L. de C.V. They were sold in a variety of different colors. No ASI-listed companies were named in the recall, and so far no injuries have been reported.
The Fibre-Metal E2 hats have a manufacture date of April 2016, May 2016, December 2017 or January 2018, while the North Peak A79 hats were manufactured from April 2016 through January 2018. The date code on the underside of the brim shows numbers indicating the 12 months of the year, while the arrow points to the month of manufacture and the numbers on either side of the arrow represent the last two digits of the year of manufacture.
Along with the manufacture date, the words “North by Honeywell” and the mold identification number can be found on the underside of the hat’s brim. Only North Peak A79 hard hats with mold identification number 4 are included in the recall.
The hats were sold by industrial protective equipment distributors in their stores and through their e-commerce portals, as well as online at www.amazon.com and other sites from April 2016 through January 2018 for between $7 and $21. Approximately 65,550 were sold in Canada and 82,500 in the U.S.
Consumers are asked to stop use of the hard hats immediately and to contact Honeywell to receive a credit or voucher equal to the purchase price of the hat. Honeywell can be contacted at (888) 212-6903 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.honeywellsafety.com. The company’s official Voluntary Recall announcement is here.
