Promotions Planner: Educate & Appreciate
Start presenting ideas to clients for promotional campaigns centered around September observances.
Many schools haven’t even let out for the summer yet, but for some retailers (and shoppers), back-to-school season is already in full swing. Education is the top market for promo sales for a reason, but schools and colleges eager for branded swag aren’t the only opportunity in September for savvy salespeople to build a targeted promo campaign. Consider suggesting that retail clients take advantage of National Swap Ideas Day on Sept. 10 ahead of the Q4 rush, for example, or that local clubs celebrate National Gymnastics Day with special offerings.
Sept. 5: National 401(k) Day
Planning for retirement – and investing more broadly – can be stressful when the economy is uncertain. This observance, recognized on the Friday after Labor Day each year, is meant to help by promoting financial education, particularly around retirement planning and 401(k) savings.
PITCH: Suggest that financial planning or investment firms hold 401(k) education sessions for their clients and give away budget planners to attendees.

Sept. 10: National Swap Ideas Day
The cliché says that two heads are better than one, and sometimes all a team needs for a boost of creativity is to bounce ideas off someone new. National Swap Ideas Day is the perfect vehicle for promoting that type of creativity.
PITCH: Propose that companies in any vertical host an end-of-year brainstorming session ahead of the holiday busy season, complete with company swag and sweet treats.

Sept. 16: National IT Professionals Day
No office would run smoothly without them, so this observance is a day to celebrate the people who keep our computers functional even after we’ve forgotten our passwords for the eighth time this month: IT professionals.
PITCH: Recommend that tech firms or corporate offices gift their IT departments something special to thank them for all their hard work.

Sept. 20: National Gymnastics Day
Held on the third Saturday of September each year, National Gymnastics Day honors everyone’s favorite sport to watch at the Summer Olympics by increasing exposure to the sport and encouraging more participation in gymnastics.
PITCH: Gymnastics clubs or dance studios offering acrobatics can advertise a free kids’ trial class to bring in new business for the 2025 school year.

Sept. 29: National Coffee Day
Two-thirds of Americans drink coffee every day, according to the National Coffee Association, which means promotions centered around this observance are likely to grab the attention of morning commuters and tired high schoolers alike.
PITCH: The opportunities are endless for local cafés and national coffee chains alike: free coffee, fun stickers and, of course, merch. Suggest retailers give away mugs or other goodies to top-tier rewards members.
