USPS Shortens Delivery Time for Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground Services

The Postal Service will not charge extra for the accelerated delivery.

The United States Postal Service is looking to speed things up.

Starting Aug. 1, USPS will shorten the delivery window for its Retail Ground (RG) and Parcel Select Ground (PSG) products from two-to-eight days to two-to-five days within the contiguous U.S. There’s no price increase attached to the accelerated service.

Promo products companies and professionals that may use the services would be among those who stand to benefit.

“Upgrading service standards for Retail Ground and Parcel Select Ground products is another way we are improving delivery for our customers,” said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in a statement. “Offering faster, affordable delivery is how we will become the best in the industry.”

RG is a ground-shipping product for packages, thick envelopes and tubes (with a maximum weight of 70 pounds) that are not required to be mailed via First-Class Mail service and are available only through retail channels. PSG is a ground-delivery service similar to RG for commercial shippers.

The Postal Service said the new delivery timetable puts the RB and PSG service standards in the contiguous U.S. in alignment with current First-Class Package service standards. USPS added that the service upgrade is part of its 10-year plan called Delivering for America, which has as primary goals the objectives of meeting or exceeding 95% on-time delivery and achieving financial sustainability.

While the RB and PSG changes are good news for customers, other recent changes from the organization haven’t been, as they’ve involved slower delivery times and rate hikes. For instance, USPS slowed delivery for many First-Class Packages in May.
