Logomark Adopts Service Dog for Military Veteran
“Scout” was named through a contest that the Top 40 supplier held among its promo distributor clients.
Logomark (asi/67866) just made the world a little better.
The Tustin, CA-based Top 40 promotional products supplier has sponsored the adoption of a service dog through Shelter to Soldier, a nonprofit that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 U.S. military combat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other psychological injuries associated with traumatic service experiences.
“We are excited to adopt our first service dog that will be trained to assist a veteran in need. Our veterans have done so much for our country, and my hopes are that through this initiative, we help raise support and more awareness about the hurdles our veterans face when they return from duty,” said Logomark CEO Trevor Gnesin.
More adoptions are in the cards, as Logomark’s Perka, iCool and Work brands are official sponsors of Shelter to Soldier. A portion of all proceeds from the lines go to the nonprofit.
The adopted dog is a 1½-year-old black and brown male German shepherd named Scout. Logomark settled on the name following a contest that involved promo distributor customers submitting more than 500 suggestions of names for the pooch. Logomark Chief Operating Officer Clive Goldberg, who has four rescue German shepherds, ultimately selected the name “Scout,” as it was a name both frequently submitted and appropriate to the dog’s calling.
“I was touched by all the thoughtful submissions, and it was a difficult decision, but the name that I kept returning to was ‘Scout,’” said Goldberg. “A scout’s role in the military is to act as the eyes and ears, and this type of security function directly plays into a service dog’s role.”
Logomark related that Scout is said to have a “charming energy, as well as being affectionate, relaxed, bright and a great candidate for Shelter to Soldier’s psychiatric service dog training program.”
The supplier noted that Kelsey Schwartz from client Print Globe was the first to suggest the name Scout. As such, Schwartz won a Perka Granada water bottle and Work Pro backpack. Teresa Brown of Top 40 distributor BDA (asi/137616) was the second to suggest “Scout.” She got a Perka Dashing water bottle.
To make Scout’s adoption possible, Shelter to Soldier worked closely with I Stand With My Pack, a nonprofit that provides global assistance to save the lives of animals and prevent suffering and cruelty. Logomark noted that it’s proud of military veterans and employs veterans at all levels of its organization.
