The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled a GPS-powered golf wristband carried by industry suppliers for posing a burn hazard to consumers. Labeled the GolfBuddy BB5, the band’s charging ports can produce an electrical charge to exposed skin. The band has burned at least two people.

Manufactured in South Korea, the GolfBuddy was imported and distributed by Deca International Corp., a La Palma, CA-based company doing business as GolfBuddy. The product is carried by multiple industry suppliers and was also sold between April 2015 and January this year at the PGA Tour Superstore, The Golfer’s Warehouse, Worldwide Golf Shops and other authorized golf dealers nationwide and online at Amazon and the GolfBuddy website.

The CPSC has recalled approximately 3,000 units and advised consumers to stop using the recalled golf wristbands immediately. Consumers are instructed to contact GolfBuddy for instructions on how to update the unit with the latest firmware to stop the issue. Instructions are also available on the GolfBuddy website at www.golfbuddyglobal.com.

The GolfBuddy is a wearable GPS unit that operates as a pedometer, distance monitor and watch, along with providing preloaded golf course information.
