The Bright Side: Charles River Apparel Sustains Its Namesake
The supplier participated in an Earth Day cleanup and donated T-shirts to the Charles River Watershed Association.
Charles River Apparel (asi/44620) reinforced an environmental commitment to the Charles River through donations and service initiatives.
Team members cleared garbage from a riverbank during an Earth Day cleanup, and the company donated 100 personalized shirts to the Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA) volunteers for a paddle race supporting river maintenance efforts.
The New England-based apparel supplier’s participation and sponsorship in CRWA events highlights its “dedication to preserving the Charles River and supporting our local community,” according to Jason Lipsett, vice president of strategic initiatives.
“The Charles River has always been integral to our company’s identity,” Lipsett said.
The CRWA has advocated for the protection of the Charles River since 1965. The association hosts one of the largest annual Earth Day cleanups in the country with over 500 volunteers on 30 sites down the river at this year’s event.
Charles River Apparel employees gathered 15 bags of garbage from Culter Park, a 600-acre habitat that protects the largest remaining freshwater marsh on the river.
In addition to its manual support, Charles River Apparel sponsored and outfitted volunteers at CRWA’s “Run of the Charles,” a paddling race that aids the association’s year-long initiatives, including environmental research on sustainability and water quality.
Its service is part of Charles River Apparel’s goal of establishing more sustainable styles and business practices. The company has implemented carbon-neutral shipping and has made efforts to source sustainable materials, among other initiatives.
The supplier has supported CRWA’s efforts for more than 15 years, and executives from the nonprofit said they’re grateful for Charles River Apparel’s continued support.
“Their commitment as volunteers, sponsors and donors of high-quality products through events like the Cleanup and Run of the Charles allows us to continue working toward a clean, resilient Charles River for all,” said Emily Norton, CRWA executive director.
In 2010, Charles River Apparel, which turned 40 last year, founded Charles River Cares, the company’s charitable giving program. Through employee volunteerism, fundraising events, and in-kind as well as monetary donations, the company gives back in a variety of ways.
