Botanical PaperWorks (asi/41273) is celebrating its sustainability achievements while planning for the coming year.

The Winnipeg-based supplier of seed paper, packaging and soaps released its second impact report this week, highlighting the company’s wins in 2025 and laying out a plan for 2026 and beyond.

sustainability growth

“It’s an opportunity to reflect on the progress we made in 2025, the challenges we faced and the commitments we are carrying forward into 2026,” says Kyle Kannwischer, CEO and co-owner. “Continuous improvement is deeply embedded in the culture at Botanical PaperWorks, and 2025 was no exception.”

Under its “Environmental Protection” core value, the certified B Corp sent 32% less waste to landfills and 68% less waste to recycling, and composted 42% more material in 2025 by eliminating plastic use in product delivery packaging and composting or repurposing 100% of seed paper offcuts and rejects. They also opted for smaller waste and recycling bins and reduced the number of pickups each week.

While Scopes 1 and 2 emissions remained similar to 2024, Botanical PaperWorks’ Scope 3 levels increased 13% year to year due to improved reporting, more business travel and an increase in emissions when shipping products to customers.

Under the “Community Impact” core value, Botanical PaperWorks started a giveback program for the Orange Shirt Society, and continued donating to Oceana, PFLAG and Earth Day Canada. They also hosted a team litter cleanup and collected 45 pounds of waste and recycling, donated 800 bars of soap to local organizations for people in need and repurposed 116.5 pounds of seed paper by collaborating with nearby businesses on custom projects.

“These are meaningful steps that reflect the care, intention and commitment to live out our values and make a positive impact,” says Kannwischer.

As part of “People & Ethics,” management also standardized performance reviews and training procedures for better clarity, consistency and professional development, and found that 76% of materials sourced were from Canadian suppliers, and 96% from North American suppliers.

Looking ahead, the team is preparing for B Corp recertification in May 2027 under B Lab’s revised standards. To that end, they will track and reduce water usage through water recycling systems, build a waste-tracking dashboard, complete an energy efficiency assessment, launch an in-kind product sponsorship program for charities and more.

“We see sustainability as closely connected to smart business practice,” says Kannwischer. “It’s part of building a healthy, responsible and enduring company. That thinking has shaped the approach we’ve taken to our 2026 goals and will continue to influence how we plan for the future.”
