Ingredients for a Best Place to Work: A decade ago, says Counselor Power 50 member and CEO Tej Shah, the culture at Counselor Top 40 distributor Overture Promotions (asi/288473) could have been summed up as “work hard, play hard.” It’s since evolved into something more thoughtful and intentional. “We focus on creating an environment that prioritizes transparency, continuing education and empowering employees to take ownership and drive meaningful change across the organization,” he says.

Overture Promotions (asi/288473) offers games like Pop-A-Shot to give employees the opportunity to unwind in its office activity space.

The Overture team has pushed leadership “to think bigger about our impact,” Shah says. “Sustainability and community involvement matter to our employees,” he adds. The company has planted nearly 300,000 trees, thanks to a partnership with Ecologi, and has also built strong partnership with local nonprofits.

It’s not all serious in the office, however. “There are prank wars, Nerf gun battles, dogs roaming the office,” Shah says, “and a group of people who genuinely enjoy working together.”

Top Benefits & Perks: One of Overture’s most-cherished traditions actually starts during the interview process. Candidates are asked to name two of their favorite movies, and if they’re hired, posters from those movies are hung up in their workspace. “Over time,” Shah says, “the office has turned into a gallery of personalities and an easy way for co-workers to start conversations.”

The distributor offers hybrid flexibility to employees, but has also taken steps to make its office a truly welcoming place, both for employees and their canine companions. Overture has an activity space, dubbed “The Retreat,” that includes Ping-Pong, Pop-A-Shot, badminton, giant Jenga and other games. The company provides gym memberships, hosts weekly onsite Zumba classes and maintains a shared office library.

Treated With Respect

Parting Tip: “Start by treating people like adults and professionals,” Shah advises. “Most people want the same basic things: respect, to know their work matters and an opportunity to get better at what they do.”

If Overture Promotions Were a TV Show, It Would Be The Bear. “On the surface, it’s about running a restaurant, but it’s really about a group of talented people trying to build something great together while things are moving fast and occasionally a little chaotic,” Shah says. “That feels pretty familiar.” Of course, he adds, a typical day at Overture has much less yelling than an episode of The Bear.
