The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with Health Canada, has issued an official recall for swivel barstools. Made in China, the barstools’ wooden leg joints can break, posing a fall hazard.

The chairs were imported and sold by Massachusetts-based The TJX Companies Inc., which includes HomeGoods, Marshalls and T.J. Maxx stores. They were also sold at Winners, Marshalls and HomeSense stores, owned by Ontario-based TJX Canada.

So far, The TJX Companies have received four U.S.-based reports of legs breaking, with three resulting in minor injuries. In Canada, two incidents have been reported and no injuries. No ASI-listed companies were named in the recall.

The barstools have a beige, blue or gray fabric back and seat, and measure about 18” wide by 22.8” deep by 40.9” high. The hang tag is printed with one of 22 different numbers, listed on the CPSC official recall page. They were sold from September 2017 through December 2017 for about $100 to $130. Approximately 1,100 were purchased in the U.S. and about 500 in Canada.

Consumers are asked to stop using the barstools immediately and return them to any HomeGoods, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Winners or HomeSense store for a full refund.
