1% for the Planet Crosses $500M in Giving
The organization, which helps facilitate donations to environmentally focused nonprofits and counts a growing number of promo companies as members, has committed to giving $1 billion by 2027.
1% for the Planet is halfway to a cool $1 billion in giving.
The global organization that helps facilitate donations to environmentally focused nonprofits announced this month that it’s reached $500 million in certified giving and pledged to surpass $1 billion by its 25th anniversary in 2027. 1% for the Planet counts a number of promotional products suppliers and distributors as members, each of whom promise to donate at least 1% of sales to help protect and restore the earth.
The milestone was announced at 1% for the Planet’s fifth annual Global Summit in Brooklyn, NY, where members and environmental partners shared in three days of talks and experiences on how businesses of all sizes and industries can positively impact the planet.
“With more than 5,400 businesses supporting over 6,500 environmental nonprofits globally, we’re as committed as ever to spur partnerships that accelerate environmental action,” said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.
She added that the pledge to reach $1 billion is unique because it represents a collective, rather than a couple of deep-pocketed philanthropists. “It’s thousands of individuals and businesses committing to better business, and this is the sum of those actions,” said Williams.
