Health Canada has recalled children’s jump ropes suspected of containing levels of phthalates that exceed allowable limits. Studies have suggested that phthalates may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in children who suck or chew soft vinyl that contains it. No incidents or injuries have yet been reported, and no ASI-listed firms were named in the recall.

The jump ropes, manufactured in China and distributed in Canada by Dollarama, were sold in packages of two and offered in blue and purple, and pink and yellow. Product number 14-3036420 is printed on the upper right corner of the packaging. Almost 125,000 were sold in Canada from March 2014 to June 29, 2017, at Dollarama stores for about $3.

Consumers are asked to immediately dispose of the product or return it to the nearest Dollarama location for a full refund, no receipt required.
