The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with Health Canada, has issued an official recall for hybrid power adapters sold with power banks from Dell Inc., based in Round Rock, TX. The casing on the adapters can break and detach, exposing the internal components and posing a shock risk. As of this writing, Dell has received 11 reports of the casing breaking, but no injuries.

The adapter and power bank were manufactured by Lite-On Technology Corporation in Taiwan between January 2017 and March 2017, and can be used separately from the power bank when connected to an outlet. The black adapter includes the Dell logo on the back, along with manufacture code CN-05G53P - LOC00 – XXX – XXXX – AXX, the “Xs” representing a number. The adapter and power bank were sold online at Dell, Amazon, Micro Center and other online retailers nationwide from February 2017 through August 2018 for between $125 and $200. Approximately 8,900 were sold in the U.S. and about 475 in Canada.

Consumers are advised to stop using the adapters and contact Dell at (855) 305-9057 for instructions on receiving a free replacement. Consumers can also go to www.dellproduct.com, click Lookup, and enter the first 20 characters of the manufacture code without the dashes for a solution recommendation.
