Zing Helped Keep 4 Million Plastic Bottles From Oceans in August

As part of its 100 Million Bottle Initiative, the supplier has been donating 1% of reusable drinkware sales to conservation nonprofit Oceana.

One month after launching its 100 Million Bottle Initiative, Zing Manufacturing (asi/99025) said it’s prevented nearly 4 million single-use plastic water bottles from ending up in oceans.

Since Aug. 1, the Phoenix-based supplier has been donating 1% of reusable drinkware sales from its S’well, BUILT and Zing lines to Oceana, an international conservation agency focused on the world’s oceans. The goal, through this initiative, is to prevent 100 million plastic bottles from harming marine life and ecosystems.

To help reach its ambitious 100 million goal, Zing has been regularly updating a leaderboard online showing the top distributor companies helping to make an impact by selling reusable drinkware. At the top of the list for August was Top 40 distributor BAMKO (asi/131431), which kept more than 409,000 single-use plastic bottles out of oceans. Second on the list is Merchology (asi/169169), which kept just over 379,000 plastic bottles out of the ocean.

Andrew Ward, president of Merchology, said he appreciated Zing’s sustainability leadership and was happy to partner with the supplier on this initiative. “Protect the Planet is one of our core values at Merchology, and when our values align with those of our suppliers it’s a win-win,” he added.

Becky Duckett, sales manager at Robyn Promotions (asi/309656), also expressed excitement to be a part of Zing’s campaign. “Caring for our planet is not just a responsibility; it’s our passion,” she said. “Together, we’re not just making a difference; we’re shaping a greener, brighter future for all.” Robyn Promotions ranked fourth on the August leaderboard, preventing more than 157,000 plastic bottles from entering waterways.

Plastic pollution is a significant threat to ocean life. Last year, more than 600 billion plastic water bottles were sold – a rate of nearly 1 million bottles per minute – around the world. Global sales of bottled water are expected to nearly double by 2030, according to a report from the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health. One reusable bottle has the potential to replace up to 192 single-use plastic bottles each year, according to statistics Zing cited.

“Our progress to date demonstrates what can be achieved when individuals and organizations come together with a shared purpose,” said Zing Vice President Rob Watson. “While we celebrate this milestone, we are even more energized to redouble our efforts and drive meaningful change for our oceans and the planet.”
