Zoom Now Offers Virtual Event Hosting
That could lead to new opportunities for promotional product companies.
Zoom, the cloud-based software platform for videotelephony and online chat services that’s soared in popularity during the social distancing of the COVID-19 pandemic, is launching a new offering that enables paid Zoom users to schedule and host one-time events, event series, or drop-ins for up to 1,000 attendees.
Called OnZoom, the offering will allow organizers to list and sell tickets on the platform. They’ll also have the power to promote the events on social media.
“OnZoom is a comprehensive solution for paid Zoom users to create, host, and monetize events like fitness classes, concerts, stand-up or improv shows, and music lessons on the Zoom Meetings platform,” the company said in a blog post.

Tapping into the rapid virtualization of happenings once held in person, OnZoom could present potential opportunity for promotional products companies. For instance, more end-clients could be encouraged to host the comparatively low-overhead virtual events – with distributors providing branded merchandise to virtual attendees.
Some brands are already busy with OnZoom.
WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers, is hosting a WWeekend with its Head of Nutrition and Wellness, Jaclyn London, using OnZoom. It will focus on building healthy habits and snack hacks while working from home. WW also hosted two virtual workshop open houses with leading WW coaches to showcase a WW Workshop, including tips to begin a weight loss and wellness journey.
Zoom had about 10 million active daily users in December 2019. That number jumped to 200 million in March amid coronavirus shutdowns that had people working from home and doing business virtually like never before.
Zoom has run into criticism for security vulnerabilities, which have prompted some companies to stop using the platform. Still, Social Media Today reported that Zoom is making progress on an improved security plan. That includes testing a new encryption security solution.
Said Zoom: “We’re excited to announce that starting next week, Zoom’s end-to-end encryption (E2EE) offering will be available as a technical preview, which means we’re proactively soliciting feedback from users for the first 30 days. Zoom users – free and paid – around the world can host up to 200 participants in an E2EE meeting on Zoom, providing increased privacy and security for your Zoom sessions.”
