This coming January, the United States Postal Service plans to increase prices on a new package delivery service it introduced this year.

USPS said Ground Advantage pricing would rise by 5.4% effective Jan. 21, 2024, if the proposed hike receives approval from the Postal Regulatory Commission. The PRC’s approval is largely considered a formality.

Announced in July, Ground Advantage aims to deliver packages of up to 70 pounds in two to five business days across the continental United States without fuel surcharges or residential delivery surcharges. 

A package shipping option for promotional products companies and other distributors, USPS launched Ground Advantage with the goal of capturing package shipping market share from United Parcel Service (UPS) and FedEx. Both FedEx and UPS are increasing prices for key shipping services by an average of 5.9% in the coming new year.

“The Postal Service continues to offer a great value in shipping,” the organization said in a statement.

In 2024, the Postal Service also plans to raise priority mail service prices by 5.7%, and priority mail express service prices by 5.9%, if PRC approval is received.

Additionally, USPS wants to raise prices for special services products, including post office box rental fees. The price of a first-class mail forever stamp is slated to rise from 66 cents to 68 cents.
