Threadfast Apparel Plants More Than 46,000 Trees in 2021

The reforestation initiative was part of the apparel supplier’s broader sustainability efforts.

Threadfast Apparel (asi/91163) is making a concerted effort to fight deforestation and the environmental ills that result from it.

The New York City-headquartered apparel brand, which sells in the promo products industry through a partnership with Top 40 supplier alphabroder (asi/34063), just announced that it planted 46,121 trees in 2021.

Threadfast made the plantings as part of its “Plant With Threadfast” reforestation program. Launched last year in conjunction with the nonprofit One Tree Planted, the program involves the apparel company planting a tree for every case of Threadfast products purchased.

“With the simple act of purchasing Threadfast product, customers make a direct impact on the environment,” the company said.

In 2021, Threadfast’s greening efforts focused on planting in forests in the United States and Canada that had lost trees due to fires. The donations cover all stages required in planting a tree: sapling growth, seeding and planting, monitoring and reporting.

“Wildfires have been a more frequent occurrence, driving deforestation around North America and the world,” said Cassandra Vitiello, a manager at One Tree Planted, a Vermont-headquartered nonprofit that advances reforestation efforts. “Thanks to our amazing supporters such as Threadfast Apparel, we can mitigate the damage done by these disasters and return affected areas to their former glory through reforestation.”

Threadfast President Abe Anteby said the company’s reforestation initiative also helps reduce the firm’s carbon footprint. It’s part of the company’s broader sustainability efforts, which include using recycled materials and partnering with the Better Cotton Initiative, a nonprofit multistakeholder governance group that promotes better standards in cotton farming/practices in 21 countries.

“We are very grateful to our customers for supporting all our sustainability initiatives, especially our partnership with One Tree Planted,” said Anteby.

Deforestation decreases habitat and threatens biodiversity while contributing to other problems that include climate change, soil erosion, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and more, environmental scientists say.
