Hit Promo to Offset Carbon Emissions
The eco-focused program comes through a collaboration with UPS.
Hit Promotional Products (asi/61125), the sixth-largest supplier in the promotional products industry, is taking tangible steps to make the world a little greener.
The Largo, FL-based firm announced this week that its partnering with United Parcel Service (UPS), its primary logistics carrier, to offset carbon emissions on shipments leaving the supplier’s facilities.
Through contractually agreed to obligations, Hit will pay an additional fee per package shipped via UPS. In turn, UPS will purchase third-party certified carbon offsets to mitigate emissions produced by transporting distributor shipments, which include envelopes, packages and freight.
According to Hit, UPS’s offset purchases neutralize the calculated carbon impact from shipping by reducing it elsewhere through the funding of environmentally responsible projects. These projects include methane and landfill gas destruction and wastewater treatment.
“Hit Promotional Products is committed not only to the safety of our products, but also to the health and safety of our planet,” the company said in a statement. “We’re reducing our impact through various efforts that will continue to increase in 2020, and our collaboration with UPS will be instrumental in this regard.”
Another Top 40 supplier, HUB Promotional Products (asi/61966), also recently announced a carbon emissions offset program. In November, the Braintree, MA-based company announced that all nine companies in its portfolio will 100% carbon-offset all outbound UPS shipments.
With reported 2018 North American promotional products revenue of $430.4 million, Hit Promotional Products ranked sixth on Counselor’s latest list of the largest suppliers in the industry.
