Atlantis Headwear Works To Preserve Pollinators
The sustainable Italian supplier is sponsoring a “biodiversity oasis” that will monitor and protect more than 300,000 bees.
Sustainable Italian brand Atlantis Headwear (asi/37380) is taking action to help hives thrive, noting the importance that bees and other pollinators have in the food chain.
The supplier has joined forces with agri-tech company 3bee to help protect the bee population, which has taken a major hit in recent years due to factors such as climate change, habitat loss, pesticides and predators. Roughly 9% of pollinating insects are at risk of extinction in Europe. In North America, more than 50% of native bee species are declining, while 24% are in serious peril, according to an analysis by the Center for Biological Diversity.
3bee has developed a new technology called “HiveTech,” which monitors and protects existing hives using biometric sensors. The sensors and microphones constantly collect data about the bees’ health and their environment. That data is used to protect the individual hive being monitored, and is also shared with over 15 universities and research centers that are studying bees and other pollinators, according to Atlantis.
As part of its partnership with 3bee, Atlantis is sponsoring a “biodiversity oasis” in Veneto, the region where its Italian headquarters is based. This biomonitoring hive will observe the health status of more than 300,000 bees.
“At Atlantis Headwear, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive positive change, and our association with 3bee exemplifies this commitment,” said Federico Pasini, vice president. “Together, we amplify the message of pollinator importance, reflecting our commitment to a greener future.”
Founded in 1995, Atlantis Headwear entered the North American market in 2021 after partnering with Top 40 promotional products supplier Sportsman Cap & Bag (asi/88877) and its distributors to offer blank caps. The supplier has taken multiple steps to increase the sustainability of its offerings, including preserving a forest near its headquarters and performing lifecycle assessments for several of its products.
