Ennis Inc. Acquires NJ-Based Company

The Texas-headquartered supplier has purchased School Photo Marketing, which provides printing, yearbook publishing and marketing-related services.

Ennis Inc. (asi/52493) says it has made a new key acquisition.

The Midlothian, TX-based print and promotional product supplier announced that it has purchased School Photo Marketing, a Morganville, NJ-based company that provides printing, yearbook publishing and marketing-related services to more than 1,400 school and sport photographers that service schools throughout the United States.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring School Photo Marketing, their employees, and their customers into the Ennis family,” said President/CEO Keith Walters. “This addition brings with it many exciting possibilities to service this new channel with products produced through Ennis manufacturing operations.”

School Photo Marketing will continue to work at current locations under its name. The firm operates through a manufacturer-distributor-end-user model, as Ennis and other print/promo suppliers do, executives said.

“School Photo Marketing specializes in serving photo labs as well as school and sports photographers by expanding their reach and becoming an invaluable asset to their business,” according to Ennis.

Publicly traded, the Texas firm has reported strong financial results in recent quarters. Those include year-over-year increases in sales, earnings and profit margin in the fiscal second quarter, which concluded Aug. 31.

Walters has said strategic acquisitions will continue to be part of Ennis’ growth strategy.

“Our profitability and strong financial condition will allow us to continue operations and fund acquisitions without incurring debt,” Walters said in September when discussing the company’s fiscal Q2 results. “Given those strengths, we also anticipate timely access to credit should larger acquisition opportunities materialize as we continue to explore strategic opportunities in the acquisition arena to increase profitability.”

Ennis sells promotional products, business forms and supplies, checks and software-compatible forms, envelopes, presentation folders and more. The company was formerly a Top 40 supplier.
