Stormtech Donates $600,000 in Apparel to Flood Relief
The Canadian supplier gave performance outerwear and accessories to people displaced by flooding in British Columbia.
Vancouver-based Top 40 supplier Stormtech (asi/89864) has committed to donate nearly $600,000 worth of apparel to support those displaced by the recent severe weather and flooding that has been plaguing British Columbia. The supplier is working with Rotary Club of Golden Ears Sunrise to help with recovery efforts in the province.
Stormtech gathered more than 9,700 units of performance outerwear and accessories valued at more than $598,000 and will be shipping them out in phases as the charities on the ground determine the best way to receive and process the donation.
“Thousands of families have been displaced without their possessions and require immediate assistance,” said Blake Annable, president and CEO of Stormtech, in a press release. “As a company who calls B.C. home, we are committed to mobilize and leverage our available resources to help the affected communities.”
The Rotary Club of Golden Ears Sunrise will be able to support more than 5,000 households with the Stormtech donation. “The sheer size of this donation left me speechless with gratitude,” said Gavin Herholdt, a member of the Rotary Club, in a press release. “It’s wonderful to collaborate with Stormtech in support of this desperate need.”
Last month, torrential rains led to significant flooding in British Columbia that left six dead (including five in a single landslide), 10 injured and 12,000 displaced, as well as 700,000 livestock animals killed. The water and landslides also cut off access to critical railways and roads. The Insurance Bureau of Canada estimates the insured damaged caused by the flooding is $450 million CN, and called it the “most costly severe weather event in the province’s history,” according to CBC. Overall costs are expected to be even higher since many people affected by the flooding were in high-risk areas without access to flood insurance, the Bureau noted.
Stormtech, a 45-year-old supplier that focuses on premium outdoor apparel for the promotional products industry and retail, ranked 32nd on Counselor’s latest list of top suppliers in the industry, with 2020 North American promotional products revenue of $43.6 million. The supplier donates 1% of global sales to charitable initiatives focused on outdoor exploration and environmental stewardship.
