Counselor Top 40 supplier PCNA (asi/66887) is helping to make its home city greener. The supplier funded the opening of five new community orchards in Pittsburgh and recently held its third annual tree-planting event.

Both initiatives are made possible through collaboration with PCNA’s nonprofit partners Tree Pittsburgh and The Giving Grove and align with the supplier’s ProudPath sustainability goals, which emphasize environmental stewardship, social responsibility and local engagement.

PCNA (asi/66887) held its third annual tree-planting event in Pittsburgh this week.

In spring of 2025, PCNA funding helped install orchards throughout Pittsburgh: Waisenhaus Park, bringing green space and fresh food access to a historically underserved neighborhood; Millvale Community Orchard, helping transform flood- and fire-damaged lots into a hub for education and food access; Mission Agape, supporting families in one of Pittsburgh’s most food-insecure neighborhoods; Rankin Orchard, revitalizing a borough with limited green space and high poverty rates; and Turtle Creek, creating access to fresh produce in a small borough where one in five residents lives below the poverty line.

“These trees will play a pivotal role in our mission to combat food insecurity,” said Kelly Doyle, orchard steward at Mission Agape. “By providing fresh, nutritious fruit and nuts, they enhance the sustainability of our food bank’s offerings and the well-being of those we serve.”

Furthering its greening efforts, PCNA held its third annual tree-planting event at Hilltop Urban Farm in Pittsburgh, the largest Giving Grove orchard in the city. Around 40 employees joined partners from The Giving Grove and Tree Pittsburgh to plant trees, maintain the orchard and remove invasive weeds.

As part of the event, PCNA presented an additional $5,000 donation on-site to The Giving Grove.

“Our partnership with The Giving Grove and Tree Pittsburgh is a true reflection of the PCNA brand,” said Mary Furto, senior vice president of marketing at PCNA. “At our core, PCNA is about driving positive impact and building a more sustainable future. Through our ProudPath goals, we bring those brand values to life in ways that matter – supporting local communities, improving the environment and planting the seeds for long-term resilience. These orchards embody what our brand stands for: purpose-driven action.”

During the tree-planting event, the supplier presented its nonprofit partners a check for $5,000. Since 2023, PCNA has contributed nearly $800,000 to The Giving Grove. In Pittsburgh alone, PCNA’s support has led to 29 orchard installations with 338 trees and 217 brambles, 2.5 million lifetime servings of food projected, 415 tons of carbon sequestered, 2,002 pounds of air pollution removed and 3.83 million gallons of stormwater intercepted.

Nationwide, over the last two years, PCNA has helped Giving Grove install 130 orchards, which are projected to provide 18.4 million servings of food, sequester 2,966 tons of carbon, remove more than 15,000 pounds of air pollution and intercept 70.3 million gallons of stormwater.

“We’re deeply grateful to PCNA for making these projects possible and for their continued partnership in growing healthy, sustainable communities throughout Pittsburgh and beyond,” said Erica Kratofil, co-executive director of The Giving Grove. “Their support is helping communities grow not just more food, but more opportunity for neighbors to connect, learn and care for one another. With PCNA’s contributions, the roots we plant today will nourish generations to come.”

Pittsburgh became the 14th city in the U.S. to join forces with The Giving Grove, expanding its community orchard program and yielding significant results. This achievement was made possible, in large part, due to PCNA’s seed grant, which helped launch the Tree Pittsburgh program.

Earlier this year, PCNA held an Earth Day giveback campaign, donating proceeds of the sales of two Klean Kanteen products to The Giving Grove for a month.
