Obituary: Gordon Halward Hunting, Apple Valley Promotions
Hunting established the distributorship with his wife over 40 years ago.
Gordon “Gord” Halward Hunting, founder of Apple Valley Promotions in Kelowna, BC, passed away on Oct. 8 after a two-month battle with lung cancer. He was 77.
Born in Montreal, Hunting relocated to Vancouver, BC, in 1969 where he managed a gas station. After five years, he moved to Kelowna and started working in long-haul trucking. In 1982, he founded Apple Valley Promotions with wife Lori, who passed away in 1994. Several years later, Hunting married Brenda, who was a sales rep at Apple Valley for over 20 years. Hunting worked part-time at Apple Valley until this past summer.
Hunting enjoyed golfing and volunteer work, including serving as the concessions director for the Fat Cat Children’s Festival in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was also a life member of the Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs of Canada and gave of his time to the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign each winter.
Hunting is survived by wife Brenda; stepsons Tyler Martens (Marie) and Trevor Martens (Cyndel); son Gary Hunting; daughter Liane Hunting; grandchildren Jennifer Hunting, Kathleen Hunting, James Hunting, Josh Hunting, Jakob Hunting, Jordyn Hunting, Lexis Hunting, Hal Martens, Nora Martens and Ella Martens; and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Carter, Aliya, Elizabeth and Tyler. He was predeceased by parents Billie and Mel Backman and Gord Sr. and Ruth Hunting, as well as daughter Maureen Hunting and wife Lori Whyte.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. PT at Revelry, 1383 Ellis St., Kelowna, BC. Condolences may be sent to the family here.
