One of the most famous ski resorts in America is about to launch a new line of branded merchandise that showcases the potential for sustainably made swag.
Wyoming-based Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) has teamed up with Massachusetts-headquartered upcycler ReFleece to create a fresh collection of merch from the resort staff’s used uniforms and apparel.
To be available on Nov. 29, in time for ski season, the tote bags, zip pouches, throw blankets, pillows, holiday stockings and wine totes that compose the collection all feature the JHMR logo.
Jackson Hole representatives said the new collection is in keeping with the resort’s broader environmental impetus, which has included actions focused on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and natural habitat conservation and restoration.
“We are so excited to have found a purpose for our old uniforms as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our impact on the environment,” said Andrew Way, Jackson Hole’s chief marketing officer. “We can’t wait to share the new ReFleece products with all of our guests this winter.”
ReFleece’s business consists of reusing and upcycling used outdoor performance wear. The firm takes such items and then, through cut-and-sew, creates new products, thereby “avoiding the environmental impact of high-energy recycle or re-dying,” according to a statement.
ReFleece began collaborating with JHMR on the upcycled collection earlier this year.
“ReFleece is thrilled to be working with JHMR in converting its old ski instructor, ski patrol, lift attendant and general uniforms into new upcycled products,” said ReFleece Founder Sam Palmer. “Each piece is unique. The fabric in these products is cut directly from the old JHMR uniforms, so you may find seams, color variations and textures that tell the story of a great first life on the slopes of JHMR.”
All of JHMR’s uniforms are designed and manufactured by the Swiss mountaineering and trekking gear company Mammut. ReFleece has worked with other outdoor apparel brands to divert used items from the waste stream and conserve resources.
JHMR will be selling the collection at its new online gear store, which will launch this winter, as well as physical retail locations that include Jackson Hole Sports, Teton Village Sports, and the Resort Store, located on the Town Square.
