Recall Issued on Branded Pinwheels

Retailer Cotton On distributed the pinwheels as a free giveaway in its stores, authorities said.

A retailer and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are recalling thousands of pinwheels after learning that fastener caps on the toys can loosen and become a choking hazard for children.

Cotton On USA, the retailer that distributed the branded toys for free at stores in multiple states, decided to make the recall in conjunction with the CPSC following a report that one fastener cap had come loose and been swallowed by a child. It was the only incident/injury that the CPSC had reported as of this writing.

About 8,500 of the recalled pinwheels were given out at Cotton On locations in the United States.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pinwheels and dispose of the product,” the CPSC said in a statement issued May 9. “As the product was given away for free, no refund or replacement will be provided.”

The multicolored pinwheels featured branding for Cotton On Kids – the retailer’s business that sells children’s clothing. Between April 2023 and January 2024, Cotton On gave out about 8,500 of the toys at its stores in Scottsdale, AZ; Christiana, DE; Willowbrook, TX; Florida Mall, Orlando, FL; Cool Springs, TN; and Mall of Louisiana, Franklin, LA.

The pinwheels were manufactured in China. The CPSC did not list the manufacturer’s name. Authorities named Cotton On USA Inc. of La Mirada, CA, as the importer of record.
