Episode 53: YouTube and the Future of Promo Sales
Nick Lateur shares secrets for creating fun and engaging video content.
Faced with an expansive sales territory and limited resources, Nick Lateur, of HPG Brands, knew there was a better, more cost-effective way to stay top of mind with his customers than sending follow-up emails. “Traditionally, the sales process in promo is a long one and if you’re traveling to meet clients in person, you’re seeing people only a few times a year.” As a result, Nick started to leverage Facebook to maintain his relationship with clients, posting funny photos and videos on Monday. Almost immediately, his clients took notice and began to anticipate Nick’s content every Monday.
As a former theatre kid and fan of The Lonely Island, Nick saw the growing response to his social media content from clients as the perfect vehicle to marry his love of promo, entertainment, and video to support his sales success as a professional. Starting with an iPhone 8 and a loose creative concept, "Monday’s with Nick" – a YouTube show that prides itself on showcasing the hottest promo products while entertaining fans with catchy songs and hilarious skits – was born.
“I asked myself, ‘What’s the most effective form of relationship maintenance?’ And by far, its video.” – Nick Latuer
In this episode of the Social Angle, Melissa Newman sits down with Nick for a behind-the-scenes look at his process for creating fun and engaging video content. He also shares how increasing his social media marketing skills made him more marketable in his career, what advice he’d give to other swag professionals on conquering fear, and remixing “D*** in a Box” by the Lonely Island for his first episode.
