Spring Into Sales

ASI Media Editors Theresa Hegel, Sara Lavenduski and Hannah Rosenberger reflect on noteworthy promo campaigns, share sales tips for the spring and summer months, and taste-test interesting eats.

Old Man Winter may still be making his presence known, but now is the perfect time to start planning for late spring and early summer campaigns.

That was the conclusion from ASI Media Editors Theresa Hegel, Sara Lavenduski and Hannah Rosenberger, who teamed up on this Promo Insiders podcast to discuss upcoming sales ideas and taste-test seasonal – and occasionally peculiar – treats, like Philly cheesesteak-flavored chips.

Rosenberger highlighted the popularity of branded items with personalization. The recent Night to Shine event in Richmond, VA, a prom experience for students with special needs, partnered with StickerYou (asi/89791) to give guests the opportunity to “sticker blast” tumblers that they took home as mementos. That was a perfect example of a way to give attendees not only a unique experience but also a piece of branded merchandise that they made their own, Rosenberger said.

“There are so many outdoor events in spring, like concerts and music festivals,” she stated. “It’s an opportunity for a brand to create a personalized experience.”

Key Takeaways

Spring Excitement: The editors are looking forward to events coinciding with the warmer weather, including a family wedding and a visit to the Philadelphia Flower Show, the United States’ oldest and largest event of its kind that’s held each year in early March.

Interesting Campaigns: Rosenberger mentioned quirky promotions like the Coors Light face roller and a pizza-scented bath bomb from Papa John’s, while Hegel highlighted a creative influencer mailer from Harper + Scott (asi/220052) for Lancôme, which included an oversized mascara tube-shaped box with various surprises inside.

Seasonal Taste-Test: The editors tried various snacks, including Philly cheesesteak-flavored Pringles, Nerds jelly beans and M&Ms flavored like peanut butter and jelly. They shared their thoughts and reactions to each item, with some hits and misses among the snacks.

Campaign Ideas: Rosenberger suggested creating personalized experiences at outdoor events, and Hegel proposed spring cleaning kits with branded cleaning supplies or garden-themed packages to align with the season. And, the editors agreed, don’t forget kids’ items, ideal for summer road trips.

Client Engagement: Consider the value of small thoughtful gifts for prospects and clients, such as Irish potatoes for St. Patrick’s Day with a message like “We’re lucky to know you.”
