How To Cure Your Addiction to Email
Productivity coach Alexis Haselberger shares her top strategies to free you from the clutches of your inbox.
A McKinsey analysis found that knowledge workers spend 28% of their workweek reading and answering emails. While we would like to think we’re blasting through tasks and goals, in reality many workers are caught in a communication echo chamber that’s compelling them to check their inbox dozens of times (if not more) throughout the day. What could you accomplish with that extra time?
The problem has become even more exacerbated for workers this decade.
“We’re straddling working from home and being in the office, and over the course of the pandemic, we started getting not only more meetings, but also more emails,” says Alexis Haselberger, a time management, productivity and stress-reduction coach. “Email is just this thing that we should be able to get done in between all of the other things, and that’s not true.”
How can we cure our email addiction? In this Promo Insiders episode, Haselberger shares a wealth of strategies, including how to get to Inbox Zero (or Inbox Zero-ish) with her “One-Touch” rule. She offers her thoughts on notifications and filing emails, what to do about your inbox after taking a long vacation, and what’s the appropriate amount of time to respond to an email. You’ll leave this episode with a new perspective on your inbox and with actionable strategies that you can implement today.
