A ‘Snacksgiving’ Celebration With Wacky Fall Flavors
ASI staffers sample odd foods in this fun Thanksgiving podcast.
Who wants a nutritional holiday meal, when you can get all of Thanksgiving’s fabulous flavors in the form of candy, chips, soft drinks and cocktails? Well, it sounds good in theory, anyway, but when you’re presented with a green bean-flavored candy corn or gravy-infused vodka cocktail, things get a little trickier.
Every year, brands release limited-edition, seasonal flavors of popular snacks, and the weirder the flavor, the more buzz they get on social media. ASI staffers Theresa Hegel, Sara Lavenduski and Melissa Newman met up on Facebook Live recently to sample some of the strange flavors they found. Some flavors were keepers: sweet potato Sun Chips and apple pie Kit Kats, for example. Others fell more into the spit-into-your-napkin variety: This category includes macaroni-and-cheese-flavored hard candy and the aforementioned green bean candy corn. But Melissa’s “Who You Calling Turkey?” cocktail took the crown. Instructions for preparing the drink include “fat-washing” vodka with leftover gravy and garnishing with fried turkey skin. The recipe’s here, if you’re brave enough to try it at home. If not, enjoy it vicariously below.
