Help Us Buy a Half a Million Meals

The generosity of the promotional products industry is astounding me today. ASI planned to end its #ASIcares industry-wide fund drive on June 30, but I was so impressed with two large, last-minute donations I decided to extend it to Monday, July 6, to see if we can top $50,000 in donations, which would be matched with another $50,000 by ASI in a promised donation to the nonprofit Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.
Consider this: Every dollar donated to Feeding America helps secure and distribute 10 meals to people facing hunger (the organization works directly with major manufacturers, retailers and other partners to secure safe, healthy food that would otherwise go to waste). That means a total donation of $50,000 from ASI would secure the equivalent of an incredible half a million meals for children, families and the elderly suffering through this pandemic and financial crisis short of the most basic human need: food.
Almost as soon as I announced the extension, Jon Alagem, president of Harper + Scott (asi/220052), emailed me a receipt for a $10,000 donation to Food1st, an organization in his NYC backyard. Wow. Just wow.
Earlier, Storm Creek (asi/89879) sent me a receipt for $7,500 and ePromos Promotional Products (asi/188515) sent one for $1,000. Wonderful! Both promo companies donated directly to Feeding America, but you can also donate to your local food bank and email your receipt to foodbankdrive@asicentral.com so we can match your donation.
We can do this! Every donation counts, no matter how small, because your $5 turns into $10, and your $100 turns into $200, thanks to ASI’s match, which is capped at $50,000. The need is great: Unemployment has soared (with thousands still waiting for their first check, thanks to overrun systems) and food insecurity is rising. According to Feeding America, even in a country as great as ours, more than 54 million people may face hunger this year because of the coronavirus.
