Golden Moments From The 2019 Power Summit

The best part of any ASI Power Summit is the intensity. Getting together with the people who really influence our industry is a rush! Whether it’s learning new concepts to apply at our own companies, debating an issue of importance to us all, raising money for a good cause or making new friends over golf, it’s all about the golden moments when everything clicks. A few of my favorites from our October gathering in San Diego:

Keynote speaker Dan Thurmon getting the opening day crowd juiced with an inspiring message about balance, vision and success while doing handstands, unicycling and juggling. He used visual reinforcements like a fake bowling ball to get us thinking: “What’s your bowling ball? We all have them – the weights in our life amplified by our fear and doubt.” Click here for an interview with Dan.

Norm Hullinger, CEO of the industry’s number-one supplier, alphabroder, sitting down with me and Microsoft Cyber Security Architect Matt Soseman for a riveting, blow-by-blow account of the devastating ransomware attack on his company just a few weeks prior to the Power Summit. I think everyone in the room gasped when Matt said there were companies in attendance who have breaches right now. “It’s not a matter of if,” he said, “but when.” Watch the video of the full Q&A for tips on protecting your company.

Raising an incredible $8,500 during a human Whack-A-Mole game with industry celebs, benefiting a local charity called Shelter to Soldier, which matches emotional support dogs with U.S. veterans. The organizers were so grateful at the amount raised they cried.

The closing keynote with Inky Johnson, whose arm and hand were paralyzed during a football game that changed his life. Beyond giving inspirational talks, Johnson mentors athletes and underprivileged youth in addition to operating three homeless shelters in Atlanta. He earned a standing ovation with advice that resonated with everyone: Give back to others. Make a difference in someone else’s life. Don’t get caught up in superficial things. Never take anything for granted. Click here for an interview with Inky.

We captured a ton of the excitement, along with several Facebook Live videos of the fundraiser and videos of several sessions, so please visit ASI’s website, asicentral.com/news, and our social media pages (#asipowersummit) for pics, videos and stories.

We’re already planning our 2020 ASI Power Summit, Sunday, Oct. 18 through Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Langham resort in Pasadena. If you have ideas for speakers or topics, email me directly at tim.andrews@asicentral.com.
