Sales Tips: Perfect Your Prospecting
We all know that prospecting is an essential part of increasing sales, but are you tackling your prospecting in the most effective way? We’ve compiled a list of the top 10 tips to polish up your prospecting strategy!
- Prioritize Your Prospects: Instead of just tackling your list of qualified leads from top to bottom, organize your list based on the likelihood that they will convert. A great way to do this is to score your leads from A-C – A being the most likely to convert to a customer and C being the least. Then, you can prioritize your A’s and put more effort into more qualified leads.
- Personalize Your Pitch: When it comes to sales pitches, it is not a one-size-fits-all game. In order to convert a prospect to a customer, you have to make them feel as if the solutions you provide are tailored to their specific goals, challenges and business needs.
- Use Email Marketing Templates: Spend less time crafting individual emails to your prospects and instead use email marketing templates that have already proven to be successful. Just be sure to adjust any variable information to fit your specific prospect.
- Focus on Your Subject Lines: When “cold emailing,” really focus a lot of your effort on crafting a subject line that’s compelling and effective. Consider using the recipient's first name to add a personal touch.
- Test Drive Your Emails: Try changing up a few things in your email marketing template and then test send it to a small portion of your prospects. This will give you a good idea of what works and what doesn’t.
- Be a Helper, Not a Seller: In all your communications with potential clients, focus on how you can help to solve the customers' problems, instead of going right in for the hard sell. How can your product or service benefit them?
- Don’t Sweat the Cold Call: If you’re tackling your prospecting from a cold call standpoint, remember to breathe, pause and not try to fill the silence with wordy explanations of your products or services. Remember to leave space for your prospect to talk about their concerns, their business goals and more.
- Prepare Your Objection Responses: Make a list of common objections to your pitch and have a prepared response for each one so you’re never caught off guard!
- Analyze & Adjust: Continually analyze your prospecting strategies to see what’s working and what’s not. Keep learning and keep adjusting so that you are constantly improving your sales.
- Take Notes: Use a CRM tool or a simple notebook to keep track of each touchpoint with a prospect. Use this information to move them around on your priority list depending on where they are in the sales funnel.
