Sales Opportunities By Region
While the industry has been challenged over the last year, there’s still a wealth of growth opportunities across the nation. We’ve taken a look at each region to determine what’s driving sales and where you might find more opportunities for profit. Consider these trends and product ideas for each.
South
The South has seen a total of $9.5 billion in promo sales. That’s a 5.5% growth from 2019-2020.
- Virtual Runs: Consider pitching virtual race bags filled with T-shirts, towels, water bottles, sunglasses and earbuds.
- High-End Products: Think nice backpacks, higher-end can holders, laptop bags and performance tees.
- Socks: These versatile products can be creative and inclusive for everyone. Consider them for a nurse appreciation initiative.
- Work-From-Home: Products that focus on privacy, like camera covers, as well as USB cables, RFID blockers, power banks and wireless chargers.
- Healthcare: Everything from hand sanitizer and lip balms to dry-fit shirts remain in demand.
Bonus Tip: It’s important to note that the education market isn’t spending money like it used to in the South. Consider expanding your client base to banks or construction.
West
The West has seen a total of $5.7 billion in promo sales. That’s a 5.8% growth from 2019-2020.
- CBD: As many western states have embraced legalized marijuana – Colorado and Washington being two notable trailblazers – interest in cannabis, hemp and CBD-related products has blossomed.
- Recreational Athletics: There’s been significant growth in amateur recreational sports in the region, particularly running and cycling races. As a result, products like T-shirts, flags, course signage, awards and sponsor goodies are on the rise.
- Commemorative Coins: Consider coins aligned with causes like preservation, which is an especially mighty ideal in the western U.S., and cancer awareness.
- Practicality: Clients appreciate products that serve a purpose, such as cooling towels, insulated shopping bags and cable organizers.
Bonus Tip: There’s a growing movement that favors items crafted from bamboo, wood or cork instead of products made of plastic. Consider eco-friendly offerings.
Northeast
The Northeast has seen a total of $5.4 billion in promo sales. That’s a 3.1% growth from 2019- 2020.
- Eco-Friendly: Climate change has pushed more buyers to make eco-conscious decisions. The demand for sustainable products like wheat straws, bamboo items and products made from recycled materials is higher than ever, and “give-back” campaigns that support green causes are also popular.
- Company Stores: Not just for large clients anymore, Company Stores allow businesses of all sizes to centralize their purchase of marketing supplies.
- High-Quality Items: With brand names like Yeti and Under Armour increasingly entering the promotional products field, expect the demand for top-notch items to continue.
Bonus Tips: If current trends continue, expect to see growth across all market segments, with diversification being the biggest key to success.
Midwest
The Midwest has seen a total of $5.1 billion in promo sales. That’s a 2.6% growth from 2019-2020.
- Tech Accessories: There’s been an increased demand for power banks and multi-cords because many people rely on tech to get through the day. Also, small accessories like grips and wallets are popular across different industries because of their functionality.
- Socially Conscious Brands: Clients want products made with materials like bamboo and recycled plastic, originating from a transparent supply chain and contributing to society via charitable proceeds. The industry is becoming less about fidget spinners and more about sustainability. Clients are focusing on quality over quantity.
- Building Relationships: Consumers in this sector prefer personal relationships, whether virtually or in-person if possible.
Bonus Tip: Expect to see continued growth across all market segments with a lot of businesses looking to move to the area.
