Promotional Printing 101: Why Sell It & Target Markets

Promotional printing involves items like flyers, postcards and signs that most often advertise a business, but can also include additional information like event details or directions. Printed pieces can be big revenue generators for your business, while also diversifying your offerings. Remember, the more your can meet your clients’ needs, the less likely they are to take their business elsewhere. Let’s take a look at why you should sell print and markets you can target.

3 Reasons to Sell Promotional Printing

  1. Increase Profits

The more you sell, the more money you can make. It’s as simple as that! And since nearly every type of business, school or organization needs promotional printing, the number of customers is endless – which increases profit-making potential.

  1. Become a One-Stop Shop

When you sell promotional printing and promotional products, you can fulfill ALL of your clients’ needs. This increases the opportunities for add-on sales, but also builds long-term loyalty and gives you the chance to grow with your customers.

  1. Get Your Foot in the Door

There are some prospects you probably wish you had, but just can’t seem to close sales with them for whatever reason. By offering promotional printing, something nearly everyone needs, it will give you the chance to do business with hard-to-reach customers, which opens the door for other sales in the future.

5 Markets to Target With Promotional Printing

Now that you know why you should sell promotional printing, let’s dive into who you should sell it to.

  1. Real Estate – Real estate agents and real estate companies need a lot of promotional printing. In addition to business cards, signs, postcards and door hangers, they often need mailers which showcase homes in the area, as well as flyers that break down all the home’s features at an open house. Given how real estate is a relationship business, if you do business and it goes well with one agent, you’ll likely to see more of their fellow agents coming your way.
  2. Schools – Schools have so many events, clubs, study groups, etc., from which you can get a steady stream of business. Schools are also well-known for providing directional signs for where events are taking place. Plus, dates, locations and details will change year to year, so once you build your relationship, the orders will flow.
  3. Hospitality – This market is simply overflowing with opportunities. First, let’s talk signage. All hospitality businesses need indoor and outdoor signage. If they serve food, menu and table tents are a must. Also, they usually have a variety of marketing materials that outline services or VIP programs for patrons to take. Don’t forget to ask about stationery, like note pads (great for hotels and meetings spaces) and thank-you cards.
  4. Healthcare – Can you say directional signs galore? With many hospitals having campuses, they work hard to keep visitors and patients informed on where to go. Outside of signage, doctors and dental offices may also need to send patients postcards when they’ve moved locations, or when it’s time for a patient’s checkup.
  5. Nonprofits – The keys to any nonprofit’s ability to serve the community is fundraising, volunteers and education. All of these require a lot of marketing efforts, including direct mail, postcards and flyers. Additionally, one of the best ways to raise money is with events, which even on their own have a need for lots of signage and posters. Be sure to ask any nonprofit if they’re doing giveaways, raffles or are selling items at their events. Lastly, sponsors a big part of how they do what they do, so they’ll likely need signage acknowledging sponsors and stationery to thank them post event.
