Gildan’s sales across all its business channels declined in 2023 and Counselor estimates that the Montreal-based firm’s promo-specific business was down 3%. Still, the big news was the publicly traded company’s epic corporate battle. After a previous board fired co-founder/CEO Glenn Chamandy in December, activist investors waged a half-year-long proxy fight to overhaul the board and reinstate him. They won: Chamandy returned as Gildan CEO/president in late May, backed by a new board loyal to him.
